Ferry Details

Most of the islands on the West Coast of Scotland are well served by ferries. These services carry both foot passengers and vehicles.

The main ferry operators are:

- Caledonian MacBrayne

- Western Ferries

You can access their on-line timetables by clicking on the company names above.

It is always a good idea to check the dates carefully when choosing ferry journeys, the timetables and services available can vary widely with the seasons.

Islands

A multitude of Islands surround Kintyre, including Arran and Davaar off the east coast and Giha, Jura, Cara, Islay, Colonsay, Mull, Iona, Scarba and many smaller isles to the west.
The picture above shows the west side of Arran after a snow fall, viewed from the Carradale to Campbeltown road.

Most of the islands have regular ferry connections for cars and foot-passengers and many of these fascinating destinations are easily explored in a day from Lag Kilmichael. We would suggest browsing the Caledonian MacBrayne web site to plan your island-hopping as they provide services over the majority of the available routes.

Surrounding Towns

The local towns of Campbeltown, Tarbert and Lochgilphead are all within 45 minute's drive. All have interesting histories, bustling harbours and plenty of facilities for visitors to enjoy. You are never stuck for a good place to eat, a homely pub or an interesting shop in any of these friendly small towns.

Local Villages

Carradale is the largest village on Kintyre but still has less than 500 residents. Despite this small population it has a fishing fleet, restaurants, pubs, a bakery, village shop, two post offices and a filling station with garage and servicing facilities.

There are many other villages and hamlets worth visiting such as Bellochantuy, Clachan, Claonaig, Drumlemble, Glenbarr, Grogport, Kilchenzie, Machrihanish, Muasdale, Peninver, Saddell, Skipness, Southend, Stewarton, Tayinloan, and Whitehouse.
