Carradale Fishing

A local permit is needed to fish on Carradale Water.

You can purchase a day or week ticket from Semple's Post Office in the village. This permit also entitles you to fish at Tangy Loch near Campbeltown.

Remember that Carradale still respects the "no Sunday fishing" tradition - full details and all other rules are included with your permit.

Carradale Water is the river that runs under the Bailey bridge between Lag Kilmichael and the road, so reaching the water is merely a 5 minute stroll from your cottage.

Here's what you can expect when you get there:-

Salmon from Bridge Pool

Local "fisherman extraordinaire" Ian Currie (pictured above with a nice Salmon taken from the pool at our bridge) is often available to ghillie for visiting anglers.

Alternatively, you could just stay in our grounds, relax and watch the busy wildlife going about its business...

Things to do

Fishing

Fishing is one of the eternal fascinations in rural Scotland. In this respect, Kintyre is no different than any other part of the Scottish countryside - we love to fish! The Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout in Carradale Water are rarely fished and present a perfect small river, wild fly-fishing opportunity to anyone with fishing in their soul.

Golf

Golf is another pastime that is viewed with great reverence by it's devotees in Scotland. We are very well endowed with courses in Kintyre and some exceptional golf is there to be played within a short distance of Lag Kilmichael.

Walking

There are hundreds of miles of walks in the Kintyre area; some of the best walking is over forest roads that penetrate deep into the hills and glens surrounding Carradale. A large part of the Kintyre coastline is also accessible on foot - indeed some parts are only reachable that way. Many exceptional views are to be had from the higher vantage points making make the climb to get there well worth the effort.

Cycling

Many miles of the local roads in Kintyre are designated as National Cycle Routes - specifically Route 73, part of which runs from Tarbert down to Campbeltown, on the east side of the peninsula. This is a challenging but fantastically scenic route covering about 40 miles of single-track coastal roads. Route 78 returns up the west coast of Kintyre making, a circular ride possible for the fit and enthusiastic cyclist.

Art

Kintyre, with its varied and often spectacular scenery and wildlife has long been a haven for sketchers, painters and photographers. With our unique climate and undisturbed environment, there are always opportunities to capture images of the ever-changing scenery, weather, flora and fauna.

Relaxing

Whatever you choose to do with your time at Lag Kilmichael, you can be sure that when you return, at the end of an active (or lazy) day; you will have warm and comfortable surroundings in which to relax and recount the day's experiences.
